FAQ
When do I need a Speech Pathologist?
Speech Pathologists specialising in laryngology assist with improving the quality of life of people with difficulties with their voice, airways/breathing, chronic cough/throat clearing or swallowing. If you notice changes in the quality or function of your voice, your throat or voice feels different or uncomfortable or your voice is not meeting your vocal demands - we can help you. Speech pathologists in the field of laryngology work with disordered breathing patterns as well as retraining your larynx and regaining control of your breathing and airways.
Do I need a referral?
You do not need a referral to book with Voice Plus Australia. However, in many cases it is important to have your larynx viewed or examined under laryngoscopy/videostroboscopy before starting voice therapy. Many referrals to Voice+ come via Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists (ENT) / Otolaryngologists. We also accept referrals from Respiratory physicians, other allied health professionals and GPs. In some cases clients may self refer to Voice+. Individual situations can be discussed on a case by case basis.
Can I claim the costs of my consultation?
Many private health funds cover speech pathology and this can claimed on HICAPS at the time of your consultation at Latrobe Health Centre. You may also discuss a Medicare Chronic Disease Management plan with your GP, where you can claim a rebate on 5 sessions.
Is there a cancellation fee?
In most cases there is a cancellation fee of 30% of your consultation cost if less than 24 hours notice is provided by the client.
